  1.      README.NOW         CC-SURVeyor 4, Shareware Version           April 1, 1990
  2.      ===========================================================================
  3.      CC-SURVeyor 4 is a geometric design program for civil engineers and land
  4.      surveyors.  It includes traverse, inverse, sideshot, bearing and distance
  5.      intersection routines, area, inscribe curve, rotate/translate/scale, lot
  6.      summary, radial stakeout, predetermined area, curve solutions, triangle
  7.      solutions, and perpendicular and parallel offsets.  A set of topo utilities
  8.      allows reduction of field notes for EDM or total station topo, or stadia
  9.      topo.  Road design features include vertical curves and grades and
  10.      intersections, cul-de-sacs, and knuckles.  Screen graphics include
  11.      assignment of points to user-named layers, which may also have different
  12.      linetypes, and will screen plot in different colors.  EGA or VGA graphics
  13.      is required.  CC-SURVeyor 4 will plot on Houston Instruments or Hewlett-
  14.      Packard pen plotters, and on Epson compatible 9 or 24 pin printers.  It
  15.      includes plot rotation without having to rotate the coordinate base,
  16.      graphic plot preview, and pause for pen change by layer.

  18.      This shareware version only includes the COGO and PLOT modules; field
  19.      traverse with compass rule adjustment and contouring are separate modules
  20.      that are available to registered users.  Another difference is that this
  21.      version will only allow 99 points per file, and the registered version
  22.      allows 4000 points per file.

  46.      To extract the self-extracting files, there are two methods:
  47.      
  48.      A.   If you have DOS 3.0 or later, you can extract them directly from the
  49.           diskette to a subdirectory on your hard disk, as follows:
  50.           
  51.           1.   Create a subdirectory on your hard disk named "CC-SURV" (this
  52.                name is used as an example, you may use any name you wish).
  53.           
  54.           2.   Put the diskette containing the self-extracting file in your
  55.                diskette drive.  For this example we will assume that is drive A.
  56.           
  57.           3.   Log onto your hard disk, in the above subdirectory you just
  58.                created, i.e.  C:\CC-SURV>
  59.           
  60.           4.   Type the diskette drive name followed by the name of the self-
  61.                extracting file you wish to extract, i.e.
  62.                     C:\CC-SURV>A:PROGRAMS and press <Enter>.
  63.           
  64.           5.   The programs will extract from the diskette file and be placed on
  65.                your hard disk in the subdirectory you are logged onto.

  68.      B.   If you have an earlier version of DOS, you will have to copy the self-
  69.           extracting files onto your hard disk first, to the subdirectory of
  70.           your choice, as follows:
  71.           
  72.           1.   Create a subdirectory on your hard disk named "CC-SURV" (this
  73.                name is used as an example, you may use any name you wish).
  74.           
  75.           2.   Copy the files PROGRAMS.EXE and SAMPLFIL.EXE from the diskette to
  76.                this subdirectory.
  77.           
  78.           3.   Log into this subdirectory and type the name of the self-
  79.                extracting file you wish to extract, i.e.    
  80.                     C:\CC-SURV>PROGRAMS and press <Enter>.
  81.           
  82.           4.   The programs will extract from the diskette file into this
  83.                subdirectory.  You may erase the self-extracting files
  84.                PROGRAM.EXE and SAMPLFIL.EXE after the files are extracted, to
  85.                save hard disk space.  DON'T ERASE THEM FROM THE DISKETTE, THAT
  86.                IS YOUR ARCHIVE COPY.

  88.      To print out the manuals to a printer connected to your parallel port,
  89.      insert the diskette with the documentation in your diskette drive, log onto
  90.      that drive, i.e. A:\>
  91.      
  92.           Type "COPY CC-COGO.TXT PRN" and press <Enter>
  93.      
  94.           This manual is 52 pages long.
  95.           
  96.           Type "COPY CC-PLOT.TXT PRN" and press <Enter>
  97.           
  98.           This manual is 32 pages long.

  101.      You are free to use, copy and distribute this program, as long as copies
  102.      contain all the files herein, and no more than a $20 disk copy fee is
  103.      charged.  If you like CC-SURVeyor 4 and wish to register it, the
  104.      registration fee will entitle you to:
  105.      
  106.      1.   New diskettes with the 4000 point version and printed, illustrated
  107.           manuals.
  108.      2.   Full support by mail.
  109.      3.   Subscription to CCNEWS, a newsletter with tips for using COGO and CAD
  110.           and news regarding CC-SURVeyor upgrades.
  111.      4.   The right to purchase other modules of the CC-SURVeyor 4 family,
  112.           including CC-BALance and CC-CONTour.

  114.      SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS AND INSTALLATION
  115.      ------------------------------------
  116.      These programs were developed and compiled with MicroSoft BASIC 7.0 and
  117.      should be compatible with any IBM PC or AT compatible using MS-DOS 2.11 or
  118.      later.  An 80x87 coprocessor is used if available but is not required.  EGA
  119.      or VGA graphics is required for screen plotting.  The mouse is supported
  120.      for menu and dialog box choices.

  122.      Complete installation and configuration instructions are included in the
  123.      manuals, and basically consists of copying the files to your hard disk
  124.      (which you have done by now) and setting some configuration options from
  125.      the SETTINGS submenu within the programs.

  134.      THE SAMPLE FILES
  135.      ----------------
  136.      SAMPLE.CCC, SAMPLE.LAY, SAMPLE.NET and SAMPLE.TIC are sample job files of a
  137.      small subdivision that demonstrate the advantages of arranging points by
  138.      layer.  Start CC-COGO and open the SAMPLE.CCC file.  Then go to the
  139.      SETTINGS submenu and choose "Layer display".  You will see the list of
  140.      layers that have been used for arranging this job.  Press <F10> to screen
  141.      plot, and notice the various colors that lot lines, the street, an
  142.      easement, etc. plot in.  Press a key to return to the "Layer display" menu,
  143.      and toggle some of the check marks off.  Press <F10> again to see the
  144.      screen plot without those layers.  This "layer" arrangement is used in many
  145.      routines to control processing of groups of points; for example:
  146.      
  147.           1)  export points by layer,
  148.           2)  send points to CAD by layer,
  149.           3)  select points for plotting by layer,
  150.           4)  pause for pen change by layer,
  151.           5)  assign different linetypes to each layer for screen and pen
  152.               plotting
  153.      and  6)  shut off unwanted layers to speed up screen plotting and help read
  154.               point numbers in crowded situations.

  156.      Start CC-PLOT and open the above files, and using View Plot will also show
  157.      you the contour net, contour tics, and contour lines.  The screen probably
  158.      appears pretty busy right now, so go to the SETTINGS "Layer display"
  159.      routine and toggle off the TOPO, NET, and CONTIC layers, and View Plot
  160.      again.  Now the screen should be a little neater, and the contour lines
  161.      show in addition to the other data viewed from within CC-COGO.  The contour
  162.      net, tics, and lines were created in the CC-CONTour module, which is
  163.      available to registered users.

  165.      This layer management system is one of the beneficial features of CAD
  166.      software, and using it early in a project will pay dividends as the project
  167.      gets more complex.  Have fun!

  203.      CC-BALANCE is required for field traverse, map check, angle balancing,
  204.      compass rule adjustment.  Batch processing and full-screen scrolling editor
  205.      for field files and map check files.  Insert/delete/edit any course.
  206.      
  207.      CC-CONTOUR is required for interpolation of contours.  Create and save/
  208.      recall/edit the interpolation net.  Automatic interpolation of net at any
  209.      contour interval.  Interactively connect interpolated tics with contour
  210.      lines.  CC-PLOT is required to plot the net/tics/contours.  Contour data
  211.      may be sent to CAD via DXF files, using CC-PLOT.

  215.      OTHER CIVILCOMP UTILITIES
  216.      ---------------------------
  217.      
  218.      CC-CAD will assist users of CC-SURVeyor COGO who also use AutoCAD Release 9
  219.      or later.  Compatible with DCA.  Includes LISP routines driven by custom
  220.      menu, for line and curve annotation, COGO (traverse, inverse, and area),
  221.      import/export files (HP Volume C format) to/from CC-SURVeyor or data
  222.      collectors or other COGO programs, import text, two symbol libraries using
  223.      icon menus.  Documentation on diskette.
  224.      
  225.      CC-TRANSLATOR will translate to or from several different coordinate file
  226.      formats.  The COGO formats include CC-SURVeyor import/export, DCA, HP
  227.      Volume C, Lewis and Lewis, MTI, and MapTech.  Data collector formats
  228.      include Abacus, CoOp41, Geodimeter, Lietz, MapTech, Super Surveyor and
  229.      Topcon Pro-Pac.  Contouring programs that are supported include AutoMAP by
  230.      DCA, LandCADD and QuickSurf.  Files may be translated from any supported
  231.      format into any other supported format.  Requires 384K RAM.  With printed
  232.      manual.

  234.      WILDCOLLECTOR will transfer XYZ coordinates to or from Wild GRE3/4 and
  235.      GIF10 data collectors and CC-SURVeyor, including point descriptions input
  236.      as two digit codes into the data collector measurement block.  The
  237.      description codes are automatically translated into user-defined alpha
  238.      descriptions within the CC-SURVeyor import/export file.  Requires 384K RAM.
